Winchester Super Suppressed 45 ACP 230 grain total metal jacket SUP45 ammo is a low-velocity practice cartridge designed for suppressed shooting. It carries the traditional heavy 230-grain 45 ACP bullet weight but uses a jacketed training projectile rather than an expanding defensive hollow point. The Super Suppressed name identifies its intended acoustic role rather than a separate chambering.
Winchester describes a brass disc enclosing the bases of its Super Suppressed handgun bullets, limiting direct exposure of lead to hot propellant gases. That construction is intended to reduce lead vapor entering a suppressor, an issue distinct from the noise of the bullet in flight. The factory rates this ammunition at 850 fps, consistent with the line's subsonic objective.
A subsonic projectile avoids a ballistic crack when it remains below the local speed of sound, but the firearm still produces muzzle and action noise. The 230-grain bullet remains appropriate for routine target work rather than relying on hollow-point expansion. The American-made ammo is supplied as fifty brass-cased cartridges per box.
