Speer Lawman 45 ACP 230 grain total metal jacket 53653 ammo preserves the classic heavy-bullet 45 ACP practice profile with a fully enclosed core. Its bullet weight follows the long-established 45 ACP ball convention, but the Lawman TMJ encloses the core more completely than an open-base FMJ. This loading is therefore familiar in weight but different in jacket coverage from some ordinary hardball rounds.
Speer's jacket-forming process leaves no exposed lead surface at the base for propellant gases to contact. The manufacturer rates this ammo at 830 fps, providing a defined training load without suggesting that a flat-ended TMJ will behave like a defensive hollow point. Because the bullet remains non-expanding, its TMJ construction should not be treated as a substitute for a defensive hollow-point design.
Forty-five ACP pistols have a long history with 230-grain target ammunition, and this Lawman version retains that established projectile mass. Its fully enclosed jacket protects the lead core from direct propellant-gas contact at the base, unlike an open-base bullet. The non-expanding nose serves conventional practice rather than impact deformation, regardless of the identical bullet weight. Speer supplies 50 American-made brass-cased cartridges per box.
