Speer Gold Dot 357 Magnum 158 grain hollow point 23960GD ammo retains the traditional heavy-bullet character of 357 Magnum in a bonded defensive load. Its traditional heavy magnum bullet weight contrasts with the company's faster 125-grain version while retaining the bonded bullet design common to the Gold Dot family. A jacketed hollow-point nose adds an impact-deformation function absent from traditional 158-grain FMJ practice loads.
At a factory-listed 1,235 fps, the load's ballistics differ from lighter magnum offerings. The bullet jacket is formed onto the core through Speer's Uni-Cor process, helping the projectile remain together as its hollow nose opens under suitable impact conditions. That 1,235-fps figure and the 158-grain mass together identify this ammo more precisely than its Gold Dot family name alone.
The traditional heavier magnum bullet weight remains an important part of this cartridge's identity. Its bonded hollow-point nose combines an expansion-oriented profile with the jacket-retention approach associated with Gold Dot. That is a different construction from the exposed soft point or non-expanding FMJ bullets also offered for revolver shooting. The American-made ammunition uses nickel-plated cases and is packaged 20 rounds per box.
