Sellier and Bellot XRG 45 ACP 165 grain solid copper hollow point SB45XA ammo uses XRG's one-piece copper design in a lightweight-for-caliber 45 ACP defensive loading. At a lower bullet weight than conventional 230-grain 45 ACP ball, the XRG offering uses a different material and nose design rather than simply a lighter lead-core projectile. Its 165-grain weight also differentiates it from conventional 230-grain 45 ACP FMJ ammunition.
A solid copper construction removes the bond interface found in jacketed bullets, so its hollow-point geometry must handle expansion as part of a single metal body. Sellier and Bellot gives this ammo a 1,148-fps muzzle rating, a useful marker for the exact 165-grain version. Because copper is less dense than lead, attaining the same bullet weight can require a different projectile geometry; the design cannot be understood from grain weight alone.
For shooters evaluating 45 ACP defensive loads, XRG is notable for both its lighter projectile and its one-piece construction. Sellier and Bellot manufactures the brass-cased ammo in the Czech Republic and sells it in 25-round boxes. A hollow-point cavity in a solid-copper bullet serves an expansion purpose without relying on a traditional bonded or unbonded lead core. These characteristics distinguish the cartridge from the lead-core 45 ACP bullets commonly encountered at the range.
