Sellier and Bellot 38 Spl 158gr SP SB38C Overview

Sellier and Bellot 38 Special 158 grain soft point SB38C ammo pairs the cartridge’s traditional 158-grain revolver bullet weight with a deformable lead-tip design. The exposed soft point differs from the jacketed FMJ and plain lead round-nose cartridges also offered for target practice.

A soft point typically retains jacket coverage around much of the bullet while leaving part of the core visible at the nose. The projectile is intended to deform under suitable conditions but is not an open hollow point. Sellier and Bellot rates this ammo at 889 fps, defining the specific 38 Special load without claiming measured terminal performance.

For a revolver owner interested in a classic bullet weight with a different nose construction, the SB38C configuration offers a separate option from the company’s 158-grain FMJ. Fifty brass-cased rounds of this ammunition are supplied for evaluation in a compatible 38 Special firearm. Actual impact position remains dependent on the individual revolver and load.

Sellier and Bellot Key Features

  • 158-Grain Soft Point: The cartridge uses a traditional revolver bullet weight with an exposed lead tip.
  • Non-Hollow-Point Nose: The soft-point profile differs from both FMJ round nose and cavity-nosed JHP designs.
  • Published Muzzle Velocity: Sellier and Bellot lists 889 fps for SB38C.
