Hornady Custom 50 AE 300gr JHP 9245 Overview
Hornady Custom 50 AE 300 grain jacketed hollow point 9245 ammo combines a 300-grain XTP hunting projectile with the rebated-rim 50 Action Express pistol cartridge. Its engineered cavity differs from the non-expanding jacketed bullets often used for familiarization with large-bore semiautomatics.
The 50 AE chambering is distinct from 500 S&W Magnum despite the similar bore designation. Hornady lists 1,475 fps for this ammunition, and the XTP’s protected hollow point and controlled jacket thickness define the bullet design. The published rating does not predict how every semiautomatic will cycle or where the load will strike.
A 50 AE pistol’s magazine and feeding system make projectile shape a practical consideration, particularly when switching away from conventional target loads. Hornady supplies 20 rounds of this ammo for evaluating the actual 300-grain XTP profile. Its hunting classification and verified chambering matter more than a broad comparison to unrelated 50-caliber handgun cartridges.
