Federal Personal Defense Punch 45 ACP 230 grain jacketed hollow point PD45P1 ammo uses a 230-grain jacketed hollow point in the familiar 45 ACP bullet-weight class. Although it shares its nominal weight with traditional 45 ACP hardball, the Punch projectile has an expansion-oriented cavity rather than a round FMJ nose.

Federal developed Punch for civilian personal-defense uses with bullets selected for individual chamberings. This ammunition's 890-fps factory rating describes the particular 230-grain JHP; the same nominal mass does not make it equivalent to Federal HST or Hydra-Shok in bullet design.

Checking this ammo in the intended pistol helps establish both feeding and sight regulation, particularly when practice sessions ordinarily use round-nose FMJ bullets of the same nominal weight.
