Federal American Eagle 45 Colt 225gr JSP AE45LC Overview
Federal American Eagle 45 Long Colt 225 grain jacketed soft point AE45LC ammo gives the old revolver cartridge a 225-grain bullet with an exposed lead tip. That combination departs from the old all-lead revolver profiles, and Federal positions the cartridge for hunting.
The 45 Colt has been chambered in firearms of very different ages and strengths, so checking the exact firearm's cartridge requirements is more meaningful than judging the round by its century-old name. This ammo carries a published muzzle velocity of 860 fps. The jacketed soft point suggests impact deformation, but it does not establish a specific expansion result without matching tests.
A shooter choosing this ammunition for the field should check the actual point of impact with the intended 45 Colt firearm, especially when moving from a heavier traditional lead load. American Eagle supplies 50 brass-cased cartridges per box.
Federal American Eagle 45 Colt Key Features
- 225-Grain Soft Point: The jacketed projectile leaves a lead nose exposed to deform under suitable impact conditions.
- Hunting Application: Federal identifies this 45 Colt loading as a hunting cartridge.
- Factory Muzzle Rating: The listed velocity is 860 fps.
