Its 500-grain bullet gives the loading a different identity from the lighter FTX and MonoFlex options in the same chambering.

This bullet is identified as an XTP flat point, not as a conventional cavity-nosed JHP. That nose classification matters when comparing hunting projectiles with very different intended mechanisms. Hornady lists 1,300 fps for the ammunition, but the substantial bullet weight and published speed do not, on their own, describe a measured field result.

Choosing an approved firearm and the correct cartridge is especially important in this magnum class. The 20-round package provides this 500-grain ammo for confirming sight regulation with the precise flat-point projectile. Shooters should distinguish the XTP flat-point construction from the 300-grain FTX hollow point rather than treating the two as interchangeable hunting bullets.

Hornady Custom Key Features

500-Grain XTP Flat Point: The exceptionally heavy bullet uses a flat nose rather than the FTX hollow-point design.

Large-Bore Revolver Load: Product 9252 is chambered for 500 S&W Magnum.

Factory Speed: Hornady specifies a muzzle velocity of 1,300 fps.

https://www.sportingsupplygroup.com/products/hornady-custom-500-s-and-w-500-grain-xtp-flat-point-9252-20-rounds
