Hornady American Gunner 9mm 124 grain jacketed hollow point 90224 ammo combines a midweight XTP bullet with a 9mm +P pressure designation. The JHP construction is intended for defensive use, while the +P marking makes this configuration materially different from a standard-pressure 124-grain practice load.
Hornady uses a serrated nose and tailored jacket thickness in the XTP to manage expansion. For this ammunition, the factory muzzle rating is 1,175 fps. Before looking at any ballistic comparison, a shooter should confirm that the particular 9mm pistol is approved for +P; a standard 9mm chambering alone does not establish suitability for higher-pressure cartridges.
Magazine function and impact location are useful checks when changing from round-nose FMJ, and they should be performed with the intended carry magazines. The technical identity includes both the hollow-point design and its pressure classification, not merely the familiar 124-grain weight. Twenty-five rounds of this ammo make it possible to evaluate the actual 124-grain XTP profile in a compatible handgun.
