FN SS197SR 5.7x28 40gr PT 10700017 Overview

FN Herstal SS197SR 5.7x28 40 grain polymer tip 10700017 ammo uses a 40-grain V-Max-style projectile with a blue polymer tip for the 5.7x28 sporting cartridge. The tipped bullet gives the SS197SR a visibly different nose and weight from the lighter SS195LF hollow point.

The polymer tip occupies the bullet's nose cavity and is intended to influence how the projectile responds on impact, a design associated with the V-Max family. FN's 5.7x28 cartridge was developed as a small-caliber, bottlenecked round and later adapted across both long guns and handguns. Ordinary FMJ training bullets do not have this tipped construction. The listed muzzle speed for this ammo is 1,738 fps.

Shooters using an SS195LF alternative should not expect identical point of impact simply because both products share the same 5.7x28 case. FN packages 50 rounds of SS197SR ammunition with the 40-grain polymer-tipped bullet for shooting in properly chambered 5.7×28mm firearms. The cartridge is classified for varmint hunting, but suitability depends on the firearm, distance, and applicable rules.
