Sellier and Bellot 460 S&W 255gr JHP SB460B Overview

Sellier and Bellot 460 S&W 255 grain jacketed hollow point SB460B ammo combines a relatively light 255-grain hunting projectile with the powerful 460 S&W Magnum revolver cartridge. Its jacketed, open-nose bullet is intended for deformation at impact rather than the solid construction of a hard-cast field load.

The 460 S&W Magnum cartridge is not interchangeable with the similarly named 45 ACP, 45 Colt or 454 Casull in every firearm; compatibility must follow the revolver maker’s guidance. Sellier and Bellot lists 1,759 fps for this ammo. The published speed helps identify the 255-grain load but does not itself establish penetration or retained weight.

For revolver hunting, bullet construction and the exact firearm are more informative than the caliber’s reputation alone. This ammunition is supplied in 20-round brass-case boxes and classified for big-game hunting. A shooter evaluating SB460B should match the cartridge to the approved chambering and distinguish its jacketed hollow point from a non-expanding practice or hard-cast projectile.
