Speer Gold Dot 45 ACP 230 grain hollow point 23966GD ammo combines the caliber's traditional heavy bullet weight with a bonded defensive projectile. Its hollow-point nose is engineered to deform on impact while the jacket remains attached to the lead core. That construction gives the 230-grain load a different purpose from familiar full metal jacket hardball.

Introduced in 1991, the Gold Dot family used Speer's Uni-Cor process as an alternative to conventional drawn-jacket bullets. The jacket is plated directly onto the formed lead core, creating a bond intended to resist separation during expansion. Speer specifies an 890-fps muzzle velocity for this particular 45 ACP loading.

Nickel-plated brass in this ammo resists surface tarnish and makes the cartridges visually distinct from ordinary unfinished-brass range loads.
