PMC Bronze 45 ACP 185 grain jacketed hollow point 45B ammo selects a lighter projectile than the traditional 230-grain 45 ACP ball load. Its jacketed nose incorporates an open cavity for defensive use rather than the non-expanding round-nose design of ordinary FMJ practice ammunition.
PMC publishes a 900-fps muzzle velocity for this particular 185-grain load. Bullet mass and nose geometry affect different aspects of cartridge design: the lighter weight identifies one factory configuration, while the cavity is intended to initiate deformation under suitable impact conditions. Neither characteristic by itself establishes how the bullet will perform in a specific test medium.
A 45 ACP pistol that functions with round-nose practice cartridges still deserves evaluation with the actual hollow-point profile, particularly through the magazines intended for defensive use.
