Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel 45 ACP 230 grain hollow point 23975GD ammo adapts a traditional heavy 45 ACP bullet weight to shorter-barreled defensive pistols. The Short Barrel design places greater emphasis on bullet opening at reduced impact speed than on maximizing a muzzle-velocity number. The 230-grain bullet retains the caliber's classic heavy-projectile weight while changing the intended expansion behavior.

The Short Barrel series is more than a different package size: Speer designed these bonded hollow points to open across lower-velocity conditions. A nominal 820-fps rating identifies this ammo and differentiates it from the standard Gold Dot 230-grain load. That distinction is relevant because a shorter pistol barrel can change available muzzle speed without changing the nominal bullet weight.
