Hornady American Gunner 38 Spl 125gr XTP JHP 90324 Overview
Hornady American Gunner 38 Special 125 grain jacketed hollow point 90324 ammo loads a 125-grain XTP into the standard-pressure 38 Special chambering. This version offers a lighter jacketed defensive bullet than the 158-grain lead loads many revolver owners know, without being labeled as a +P cartridge.
The XTP design uses a protected hollow-point nose and a jacket shaped to manage deformation, with serrations helping define where expansion begins. Hornady lists 900 fps for this ammunition. Because 38 Special revolvers include a wide range of barrel lengths and sight configurations, the lighter bullet's trajectory in a particular firearm matters more than a general claim about 125-grain loads.
The important choice here is a 125-grain defensive JHP in 38 Special, distinct from Hornady's higher-pressure 38 Special +P products. Shooters using older revolvers should verify firearm condition and compatibility even with a standard-pressure loading. Twenty-five rounds supply the exact ammo for checking where the American Gunner XTP lands relative to ordinary range cartridges.
