Speer Gold Dot 25 ACP 35 grain hollow point 23602GD ammo takes an expanding-bullet approach to a cartridge normally associated with 50-grain FMJ. Its projectile has an open nose and a markedly different mass than conventional 25 ACP ball ammunition. That combination makes the cartridge visibly different in purpose from the familiar 50-grain target load.
Speer's Gold Dot process develops a jacket directly on the core, seeking to avoid the separate jacket movement associated with conventional construction. The manufacturer's 900-fps rating identifies this ammo without implying any particular expansion diameter in a short barrel. Because small pocket-pistol barrels can produce different velocities from factory test equipment, the catalog speed should not be treated as an individual pistol's measured result.
The 35-grain projectile is unusually light even within the compact 25 ACP category. Speer's bonded construction is intended to keep the expanding projectile's core and jacket together despite its small size. The American-made ammo uses nickel-plated cases and comes in 20-round boxes. A hollow-point nose does not, on its own, establish expansion performance from every pocket-pistol barrel.
