Hornady Varmint Express 17 Mach 2 17 grain V-Max polymer tip 83177 ammo brings the company’s expanding varmint bullet to the compact 17 Mach 2 rimfire cartridge. Although the projectile resembles the one used in Hornady’s 17 HMR ammunition, the two cartridges have different cases and require their respective chambers.
The Mach 2 traces its design to a necked-down 22 LR Stinger-type case rather than the larger 22 WMR-derived case used by 17 HMR. Hornady lists a 2,100 fps muzzle velocity and 166 foot-pounds of energy for this loading, with 1,530 fps remaining at 100 yards. It is packaged in a 50-round box.
